Inspired by the work of the Italian architect Carlo Scarpa, a reinterpretation of a traditional Japanese folding screen fused with a European Brutalist aesthetic.
American yellow pine panels finished using Yakisugi, a traditional Japanese method of scorching wood for preservation. These panels are inset with a giant moon of burnt gesso, with custom patinated brass sphere pin hinges and capping plates.
The burnt gesso is a unique and unpredictable process and finish, in which a gesso ground is burnt and carved back, creating a molten surface riven with cracks and craters
